Far Away Lands

The Vizcaya Palace Boathouse, the first painting in this series, appears to be part of an Italian villa, but it's actually located on the grounds of the former Miami winter home of James Deering, founder of International Harvester.  It was built on the shores of Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove to replicate the Italian Renaissance architecture found in Tuscany.  Having travelled throughout Italy in my youth, I can see why he was so captivated by the beauty of the region.  Castillo de Sotomayor was built  in the 12th century on the outskirts of Pontevedra in the province of Galicia, Spain, north of Portugal.  The last piece is a waterlily pond in Anapolis Royal Botanical Garden in Nova Scotia, where some of my watercolor floral photo references were taken.
